Eutrochium maculatum

Spotted Joe Pye is a great addition to any garden reaching up to 6’ in its ideal sun/moisture conditions. Shorter heights will be seen in drier conditions, but it’s always a show stopper with its flat clusters of pink flowers and purple/red stems. Blooming later in the season (usually July - September), Spotted Joe Pye is loved by all kinds of pollinators and always has a flurry of activity surrounding it.

Spotted Joe Pye will seed enthusiastically (making great bird feeders for the winter months), so use caution planting in smaller sites. That said, our Spotted Joe Pye is planted beside a man-made pond in clay soil (average - average/wet) and I do find it manageable to keep on top of any seeds that do make it to the ground to germinate. I find the amount of pollinators it feeds with its nectar rich blooms well worth the minor weeding effort.
