Solidago nemoralis

Also called Old Field Goldenrod, Grey Goldenrod is one of our shortest Solidago species keeping to about 2’ tall. Grey Goldenrod grows hairy stalks that arches out creating a vase-like shape of small yellow flowers.

Grey Goldenrod likes full sun and dry soil, growing where little else will grow you will always find it covered with a wide variety of pollinators ranging from bumblebees, bees, wasps, butterflies, moths and flies. This species of goldenrod would work wonderfully in a ‘hellstrip’ or boulevard garden setting given its preferred growing conditions and its less aggressive nature (compared to some of its relatives).

The Solidago species are a keystone species and valuable host plants for over 100 species of moths and caterpillars, as well as providing pollen and nectar for approximately 30 species of specialist bees.
