Solidago juncea

Early Goldenrod, like many other Solidago species, boasts an array of tiny yellow flowers attracting copious species of pollinators ranging from Bumblebees, bees, wasps, butterflies, moths and flies. As it’s name suggests, Early Goldenrod is most often the earliest of the Goldenrods to bloom and has lovely arching branches of flowers resembling a firework.

The Solidago species are a keystone species and valuable host plants for over 100 species of moths and caterpillars, as well as providing pollen and nectar for approximately 30 species of specialist bees.

Early Goldenrod may self seed readily but is easier to manage than its relative Canada Goldenrod which seeds heavily as well as running amuck via underground rhizomes. That being said, it may still overwhelm some smaller landscapes.
