Dense Blazing Star grows from a grass-like base shooting up tall narrow stalks that bloom from the top down with bright purple-magenta flowers creating a long bloom time beacon for a wide range of pollinators, especially butterflies such as the Monarch, as well as many varieties of bees.

It is a grassland species which is habitat that has become very rare in Ontario, and is actually classified as a threatened species. This means that by growing more Dense Blazing Star you are helping all the creatures that depend on species like this one, such as our songbirds who rely on the copious seeds for migration energy, or food over the long cold winters.

Historically, indigenous people have used Dense Blazing Star to treat many illnesses including colic, muscle pain, digestive issues and heart problems.
