Silphium perfoliatum

Cup Plant’s cheery yellow flowers attract many pollinators including bees, bumblebees, wasps, flies and butterflies. Usually reaching heights of 6', it can grow taller in wetter sights or shorter in dryer sites. Large leaves clasp each side of the stem creating a ‘cup’ that holds rain water attracting insects, birds and other wildlife throughout the season. When the flowers are spent large seeds develop and feed local birds.

Cup Plant can be aggressive and is a large plant, so it is not well suited to small growing sites.
