Cephalanthus occidentalis

Buttonbush has glossy deep green leaves that give an attractive appearance even when not in bloom. At bloom time you’ll find many small flowers form a globe shape enjoyed by a wide variety of bees, butterflies and moths. Dried globes from spent flowers provide winter interest and contain seeds that are a needed food source for many waterfowl.

Button Bush is a member of the coffee family growing up to 12’, making it a larger shrub that is an ideal nesting habitat for a variety of songbirds. It is ideal for rain gardens and moist to soggy soil, but does not like standing water for long periods of time.
