Butterfly Milkweed has large flat cluster of brilliant orange (sometimes yellow) flowers that are loved by many butterflies, bees and other pollinators. As with the other Milkweed varieties, Butterfly Milkweed is an essential plant for the survival of the Monarch Butterfly. Showy blooms also make wonderfully scented cut flowers. With the large clusters of flowers, you’ll find Butterfly weed provides long lasting cheer with its extended bloom time.

Butterfly Milkweed will do best in a site with dry sand or well drained loam as it doesn’t like to be in soggy or wet soils. The long tap root helps make this plant drought tolerant.

Butterfly Milkweed has been used by Native Americans for Pleurisy and other pulmonary ailments as well as bronchitis and diarrhea. It is toxic if eaten in large quantities.
